Agropoli to Salerno

Agropoli is a beautiful smaller town that's on a fairly steep hill -- though do not ask the kids as they didn't leave the boat while we were there. The coast of Italy north of Roma is not full of places to anchor, so you must find friendly harbours to visit. After Agropoli (an Italian cannibalization of the Green Acropolis), we headed towards Salerno -- a much larger city with a fairly large harbour. We knew there was some 30+ knot weather coming so we wanted to be in a secure harbour. We selected Salerno and came into a large commercial harbour eventually finding the yacht basin. The marina was fairly empty but they still charged a high rate. We pulled into the slip and the guys jumped on the boat and pulled in the anchor lines. They must have been expecting some big winds because they attached 2 anchor lines on each side of the bow. Even still in the big breeze we swung back and forth quite a bit.

The marina where the boat is...we're one of the white
ones at the far side.
The first day we checked out Salerno, the second day we went to Pompeii, the third day we cast off and headed north. We found Salerno to be quite a nice city. Marina and I were out of cash and most of the ATMs pretend they're going to give you cash -- up until the end when they don't. We found the Banco di Napoli worked with my RBC card so we checked the internet for where the nearest Banco di Napoli is. Turns out it's close to the Marina. So, we headed off to find it ... walked high and low and were about to give up (having walked 5 blocks north, then south) and then we noticed that the place we were studying the map, had we looked up, we would have been at the bank. So .... we did look up, we did find the ATM and it worked. Cash in hand again we did some marketing and headed back to the boat. We got there before the kids woke up, we slipped the lines off the dock and headed out to sea.
Relaxing with a snack and a beverage.

Even though the marina seemed industrial by day,
it was lovely at night with a castle on top of the hill.

Jessie and I like to take the "own" picture (hams that we are!)
...so we toss one in once in a while.
