The Boat is Quiet

Jess with Marina waiting for the cab
Readjusting to life without Jessie takes time, like a couple of days. It is hard for us to realize that she is gone. The boat is so quiet, music isn’t on all the time, Ross is acting like an adult when he’s not acting like a 10 year old, and I don’t have a mirror image of myself to argue with.

We got up at around 05:30 and took the dinghy to shore at the NAOK yacht club in Corfu. We walked up the stairs and to the Hotel & Casino where we had made the taxi reservation.  We were about 10 minutes early and just hung out at the entrance when a new MB ESeries cab came up and asked for Jess. We each got a hug and off she went.

Like many of the airports here in the Greek islands, the Corfu airport is really close to town. We have walked it before, picking up Ross’ friend Philip on foot and then wondering why he had brought such a heavy bag. Turns out he was coming for 19 days and had packed 19 shirts, and 19 pairs of underwear – WTF Philip?  We think he took home 17 clean shirts and 18 clean pairs of underwear – that would have been enough to last Ross an entire term at University.

Jess early morning in Vancouver
with Tina
Back to Jessie. She was at the airport and texting us that she was through security before we were back at the boat.  She boarded the flight to Athens and then had a 4 hour layover before her trip to Toronto and then Vancouver began.  There was a little bit of panic when her phone was at 9% battery and that’s where her boarding pass was on (apparently we weren’t the only people she was texting) so “practical” Ross suggested that she either turn it off or find a charger. I thought that was a very practical solution, Marina thought he was being a jerk. Anyway, she found a charging kiosk and tragedy was averted. I am taking this information from  Marina who was awake and texting Jess while I was checking my eyelids for light leaks.

She made it on the flight to Toronto and landed a few minutes early and managed to catch an earlier flight to Vancouver where she was picked up by some friends and went to her Grandparents Tina and Gundy's house, likely very tired 25 or so hours after she left us in Corfu.

Marina is a bit out of sorts. The two girls (actually the three when Chloe was here) would sit on the bow and chit-chat for hours on end. Marina must be craving that as I overheard her listening to Ross talk about how in his game he was able to win the WW2 simulator as Poland in 1936. She’s really looking forward to getting home to her two girls – Jess and of course, Kida.
