Meanwhile – back at the Ranch ….. Tara Gets Painted

Greasing the Max Prop

The Herzliya Marina is really quite a nice marina so we chose to get the bottom painted here so we don’t need to do it later in the summer. While we were away in Egypt was the perfect time. While it’s probably 30% more expensive in Israel than Turkey, they do great work and they’re environmentally sensitive – they sand the bottom and collect the sanded paint in hepa filtered vacuums, dispose of it properly, then put on 2 coats of ‘name-brand’ paint + 3 on the waterline. They also removed the bow thruster and cleaned the propeller and rezinc’ed the entire boat … while we were touring in Egypt. All we had to do on our return was to grease the propeller – and they even provided the grease gun.
On the way back to her natural habitat

Tal’s company Seanergy does really good work – though when you’re buying 4 gallons of bottom paint at $250-$300 per gallon and also doing a haul-out at $1000 it gets pricey, that’s for sure. It’s easy to forget that everything on a 50 footer is at least 4x the price of the 24 footers. One thing I did really like was that somebody else was sniffing the noxious chemicals instead of me for a change.

Lowering Tara into the Water. For those who are
interested, the prop is feathered in this position
Anyway, we splashed her back into the water and moved to ‘T’ dock –  the weather was great so Marina decided to take the boat out of the Travelift area and bring it into thedock. Once again she did a fine job …. Am I becoming redundant? Yikes! We really like T dock because it is a) closer to the washrooms; and b) the Internet is really reliable here.

Dealing with the laundry from Egypt. Thank goodness we're home
